Carmen considers the members’ health and wellness a priority across every department and amenity. Most notably, Mediterra has recently launched its “Doctors Orders” branded nutritional wellness program that includes: superfoods; healthy menu options; “words from the chef”; smoothies; and recovery shakes which are available to the members in the fitness center, tennis center, poolside, and at the Bocce Garden.

The Club at Mediterra has been recognized as a Distinguished Emerald Club, a Top 50 Platinum Club, a 2-star Green Certified Restaurant, Community of the Year 10 times in 14 years, the number one place to retire in Florida, a Top 50 Place to Work in South Florida, one of America’s Healthiest Club and one of 13 “Wellness Project” Founding Members.

The Culinary Team at Mediterra received their prestigious 2-star Green certification based on the implementation of 49 environmental practices. The association scores restaurants and foodservice operations in seven environmental categories including energy and water efficiency; the use of sustainable food; reusables and eco-friendly disposables; waste reduction and recycling; sustainable furnishings and building materials; and chemical and pollution reduction.

Restaurants must have a full-scale recycling program, be free of polystyrene foam and fulfill yearly education requirements for staff.

According to Executive Chef Tyler Field, the Fresh Seasonal Salad served with the Smoothie of the Day, and the Antioxidant Salad have been extremely well received and have recently become top sellers.

A recent article written by the Chef explained the health benefits of squash that includes promoting cardiovascular health, improving lung health, protecting against birth defects and help fighting disease. “The monthly newsletter is just one way for us to communicate the message and our members have voted with repeated requests.”
