There are so many grooming tools and
products out there, do you have a particular tool or product that you swear by
for your excellent results?
I think the most important part of my grooming
kit is elbow grease! Giving the horses a good
groom is so important to bring up the coats and
it massages the muscles and I'm always looking
for any little changes in their legs or condition
when I'm brushing , and one thing I always have
is baby oil to put the finishing touches , it brings
up their faces beautifully and it's great for helping make quarter marks stand out.
If you could give one piece of advice for
someone who is starting out as a professional groom, what would it be?
both your jobs become a lot easier . I think because I have ridden and competed myself I understand what the rider requires from a groom
and as I have groomed at many championships,
Olympics, etc. my riders respect my abilities so
that enables me to do my best for the horses.
What part of your job do you enjoy the most?
The part of my job I enjoy the most is when I am
away at a show and I get to spend time with the
horses, getting to really know their characters
and making them feel on top of the world so
they can perform , and it's the best feeling when
I see the riders smiling knowing that they are
happy with the horse.
I think the most important piece of advice for
grooms is to always be open minded & take
advice . I have been in this business a long time
but I am still learning and i think as long as you
want to learn and ask questions then you will
always be on top of the game ! There are so
many different ways to approach things with
horses and you have to stay open minded , I am
extremely lucky that I have worked with some
of the best vets , farriers and grooms over the
years and have learned so much and i still ask
questions of them all!
I understand you have worked with several
other top level riders in the past, are they
all different in their requirements or are you
pretty much free to work your magic?
I have worked with a lot of top riders from different disciplines and I have always found that if
you have a mutual respect with your rider then
