Behaviour Management

It's important to get the new year off to a good start and strong behaviour management is part of this. You should decide on the following:

* How will you get the attention of a noisy class?

* How will you set the routine of the class?

* How will you set your ground rules?

* How will you deal with rule breakers?

* How will you arrange the classroom?

Use this CHECKLIST to see if you're ready for your new class's behaviour!

Take a look at this free noise-o-meter. If your students are too noisy, the balls will bounce!

Setting Ground Rules

- Involve the students in creation

- Have ground rules for you too

- Get students to sign them

- Display them in class

- Have clear consequences attached

- Revisit them regularly

If you are involving students in their creation, ensure that you have a clear idea of rules that need to be included too. This way you can 'guide' their direction to meet your needs also.
