Study Programmes
'As a college, it is our intention to further extend PBL, Learning Companies and other alternative curriculum designs to meet the governments Study Programmes agenda and ensure our students 'Go Further' in higher education and employment.' Pennington, C, 2014
Professor Alison Wolf, in her review of vocational education, recommended that study programmes be introduced to offer students breadth and depth and without limiting their options for future study or work. You can discover more about study programmes HERE and in THESE SLIDES from the DfE.
Another of her recommendations was that all students should achieve/ be working towards achieving a grade C in English and Maths. If we are to motivate students in lessons, then it's essential that they're able to see what progression routes lie ahead. If their English and Maths is holding them back then it's far less likely that they'll stay on at College, after all, what's the point without a job at the end of it?
In addition to how study programmes might enhance the curriculum, the College has always been concerned with students going further. As part of this, we should be seeking to embed employability skills, not just through study programmes, but in every lesson too.
If you need any advice on how to further embed employability, English and maths into your curriculum, why not pop along to our lesson planning drop-in if you're free? It takes place every Friday in B100 between 1.30 and 2.30pm.
If you're free at this time and you're able to offer
advice to colleagues, that would
be greatly appreciated!
