Employability and Community Case Study

This department regularly uses Google forms to monitor attendance by sector to the weekly drop-in enrolment.

Google spreadsheets are used to monitor and analyse information about the the effectiveness of job search methods and job markets.

Technology is an integral part of Employability: all courses have their own Google community to enable conversations during and long after courses too. In addition, the staff Google community is an essential part of the department’s communication.

Quizzes are created on Socrative, thought-storms are formed on Padlet and are stored on the community for all learners to view later.

Video feeedback is now used as a way of better engaging students with the process of feedback.

Many of these devlopments have come from staff attending Pass It On sessions and learning from their colleagues.

It is worth noting that the mindset to use technology is there. Not only is technology being used to improve lessons but it enables learners, many of whom are ‘Digital Immigrants’ to have the confidence to use ICT outside the classroom.

Many thanks to Scott Reilly for sharing this valuable insight.
