From the President

Sincerely ,
Jesse Pisors , Ed . D . PHSC President
Dear Friends ,
When the last issue of Perspective reached you , I had just begun my journey as president . Several people have asked me how I enjoy the role , and I can honestly say that I love the work more than I expected – and I expected to love it !
As I have often said , nothing is more important than what happens in the classroom . Facilitating real learning that positions students to succeed in the pursuit of additional degrees or in the execution of their careers is what drives everything we do . It is certainly what inspires me . I have enjoyed visiting classes , talking with students and conversing with faculty about their work .
As we move on from two major hurricanes ( from which the College suffered very little damage , fortunately ), I must tell you this : The outpouring of compassion that I saw among our staff , faculty and students was moving . While many , like Nayeli and me , were fortunate to suffer only the minor inconvenience of a few days without power , others are still struggling to recover from substantial damage . Our college community took care of each other in hundreds of ways , large and small .
As the fall semester and my first year approach their end , I am pleased to have finished two major projects . During my first few months I completed a “ Listening Tour ” composed of 55 , one-hour , small-group meetings across all campuses and involving hundreds of employees and students . The Listening Tour also included an online survey . In all , over 2,300 comments were generated .
This invaluable feedback allowed me to get to know our community deeply and to ground the other project I am delighted to have completed : the next iteration of PHSC ’ s strategic plan , which will guide our work toward critical areas and goals from 2025-2029 . ( You can read more about this on page 19 .)
As we approach the holiday season , please know how grateful I am for each of you . The support you provide takes many forms , and it is critical to the success we enjoy today and the future we strive to attain .
