Community Foundation of Sarasota County Enhances Student Opportunities Through Scholarships

The PHSC Foundation recently received a $ 40,000 grant from the Edward K . Roberts Community College Fund of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County . This generous funding provided scholarship support starting in the summer term and will extend through the fall and spring terms . The scholarships will be especially focused on students who may not qualify for other forms of financial aid and who are parents , whether single or married .

Edward K . Roberts , who was raised by a single mother , understood the challenges and perseverance required to overcome barriers and achieve one ’ s goals . His personal experiences fueled his commitment to supporting education and his success afforded him the ability to become a generous lifelong donor to PHSC . He relocated to Sarasota and upon his death in 2009 , established the Edward K . Roberts Community College Fund at the Community Foundation . Since 2011 , the fund has provided $ 590,000 to financially assist PHSC students .

Community Foundation Tampa Bay Continues Investment in Pre-Collegiate Program

As part of a multi-year grant , the Community Foundation Tampa Bay continues to provide support for the College Reach Out Program ( CROP ). CROP is a long-standing initiative which provides programs , services and activities to motivate and prepare students in grades 6-12 from low-income educationally disadvantaged backgrounds toward pursuing and successfully completing postsecondary education .

CFTB makes strategic philanthropic investments in local nonprofit organizations funding programs that fall within their five focus areas : Economic Opportunity , Environmental Resiliency and Sustainability , Physical Health and Mental Wellbeing , Quality Child and Youth Education , and Vibrant and Engaged Communities .
Since 2014 , the Community Foundation has provided over $ 112,000 for various initiatives and program support at PHSC .
When asked about the impact the pre-collegiate programs have had in her life , Deryanna Mobley said , “ I learned how to communicate and work with others while also gaining life skills through the Saturday workshops , experimental field trips and hands-on activities .” Mobley plans to major in education after graduating high school .
