Reflections on Gold : PHSC ’ s 50th Anniversary Video

By Carmine Bell , Ph . D ., PHSC Professor Emerita
Reflections on Gold : PHSC ’ s 50th Anniversary video tells the story of the College from its beginning as a “ college without walls ” to its present position as a dynamic multi-campus institution serving the rapidly growing population of our 1,200 square mile district . Aerial photography , nostalgic and contemporary still photos , vintage newspaper articles , and interviews with key PHSC leaders combine to shape a video experience that is both informative and entertaining . Many pieces of College history are brought together in a compelling account of PHSC ’ s early years ( 1972-1994 ), explosive growth period ( 1994-2015 ), and present progress and future initiatives ( 2015 to the present ).
Two versions of the video allow viewers to watch both or choose the one that best matches their interests and available time . The capsule version ( 6.5 minutes ) tells the whole story with interview excerpts from College leaders — founding trustees Judge Wayne Cobb and Jim Kimbrough ; former presidents Milton O . Jones , Ph . D ., and Katherine M . Johnson , Ed . D ., and current president Timothy L . Beard , Ph . D . Former trustee / administrator James Yant speaks on behalf of the College ’ s second president , the late Robert W . Judson , Ed . D . The extended version ( approximately 14 minutes ) includes interviews with representative faculty and staff , some of whom were the first hired in specific positions . In both versions , voice-over narrator PHSC Associate Professor Eric Wolters , moves the story along at a brisk pace , leaving viewers with an overall impression of the College ’ s profoundly positive impact on the community . The video was directed by JL Video of Trinity and produced by Bell and Lucy Miller , Special Assistant to the President , PHSC . Both videos are available at phsc . edu / history .
