2019 , the PHSC Foundation embarked on a remarkable $ 1 million dollar nursing scholarship challenge . Thanks to many of our donors in the community , we were able to reach this goal . The generosity of the Roy Hardy Benevolent Trust Fund not only instigated this challenge but gave the largest amount to the goal . After Roy Hardy passed in 2018 , the task was simple : if PHSC could raise $ 430,000 in matching funds , then we would receive that amount from the Roy Hardy Benevolent Trust Fund to establish an endowed scholarship in their name . This money would be used to support nursing students at PHSC .
Roy T . Hardy and his wife , Martha , were the definition of philanthropists in the Dade City community . The Hardy ’ s were committed to providing access to healthcare for all regardless of the economic situation . They would hold annual fish fries and chicken dinners to help raise money for local families in need .

The Roy Hardy Benevolent Trust Fund Board was invited to celebrate the dedication of the Roy T . and Martha B . Hardy Recreation Area at PHSC ’ s East Campus in Dade City . To honor the Hardy ’ s , the Foundation hosted our own version of a fish fry , complete with fried fish , hush puppies and coleslaw . PHSC nursing staff joined the event to speak about the impact the scholarship money will have on our students and , in turn , the community . The event ended with a check presentation in front of the Roy T . and Martha B . Hardy Recreation Area with some of the board members .
