Diversity , equity and inclusion promoted through award-winning events

PHSC is responding to challenges to

the nation and regional community with a local response . This fall , PHSC Student Life and Leadership hosted the # ItTakesUs social justice series , to bring insight into how these events impact us , and how we can each personally take action to make our community , state and country better for everyone .
The fourth annual Pasco Notables Event was hosted by the East Campus in celebration of former Major League Baseball ( MLB ) pitcher James “ Mudcat ” Grant , of Lacoochee , and Chloe Davis Senia , a visionary entrepreneur and community organizer from Dade City .
The virtual speaker and engagement series attracted hundreds of participants at each session and was honored with the Excellence in Inclusivity Award , by the North Tampa Bay Chamber of Commerce . The award was subsequently dedicated to Imani Asukile , Director , Global and Multicultural Awareness Equity and Special Assistant to the President , for his long-standing service to PHSC and his commitment to equity , fairness and social justice .
PHSC has historically presented spring events promoting multicultural awareness to students and the community , through speakers , activities , events and experiential learning . This spring , in alignment with Martin Luther King , Jr . Day and Black History Month , PHSC hosted “ Where Do We Go From Here ? A Conversation about Racial Equity ,” with Beverly Daniel Tatum , Ph . D ., and “ Emancipation Day in Florida and the Role of Blacks in Establishing Pasco County ,” with Canter Brown , Jr ., Ph . D .
James “ Mudcat ” Grant was the first black American League pitcher to win 20 games and a World Series game , and dedicated his life to promoting the history of blacks in baseball .
The month of March celebrates Women ’ s History and brings two dynamic events . In the “ Thriving in Uncertain Times ” virtual conference on March 30 , keynote speaker Dr . Angela Garcia Falconetti will engage attendees in sessions delving into physical , mental and financial health . Two additional virtual sessions on March 17 and April 21 will continue the conversations .
All of this would not be possible without the partnership , collaboration and sponsorship of PHSC Student Life and Leadership , PHSC Global and Multicultural Awareness , PHSC Foundation , and community partners Duke Energy and Anthology .
Chloe Davis Senia owned several businesses and was instrumental in facilitating the Moore-Mickens Vocation and Educational Center in Dade City .
