DISTINGUISHED HONORARY MEMBERSHIP The PHSC Foundation Board recently recognized two long term members with prestigious honors . Andrew Barnes , Dade City , and Joel Goldberg , DMD , New Port Richey , were nominated and unanimously approved as Honorary Members of the Foundation Board .
Andrew Barnes is the retired Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of the St . Petersburg Times . He joined the PHSC Foundation Board in 2010 and has served numerous capacities including as a member of the Executive Board and Finance Committee . Andrew and his wife Molly began their support of PHSC in 2009 with a donation to the Lucy Morgan First Generation Scholarship which was established in honor of his friend and former colleague Lucy Morgan . Since that time , the Barnes ’ have generously supported PHSC student scholarships including numerous matching opportunities to double their impact . Andrew Barnes generosity and leadership leaves a philanthropic legacy which designated his honorary nomination .
Joel Goldberg , DMD , has provided dental services to the residents of Pasco and Hernando counties for decades . This local dentist was a proud member of the PHSC Foundation Board for over 25 years . Dr . Goldberg encompassed a strong passion for assisting the students at PHSC .
Along with serving in several leadership capacities for the Board , Dr . Goldberg was a strong supporter of many PHSC Foundation fundraising events including the Suncoast Sampler , Catch and Release Fishing Tournament and Bash at the Ranch . Joel Goldberg leaves a legacy with his generosity and desire to help PHSC students in need succeed and reach their educational goals .
The PHSC Foundation thanks and congratulates Andy Barnes and Joel Goldberg on this welldeserved , distinguished honor . Prior to their appointment , the Foundation Board has provided an honorary distinction to only 10 individuals in the past 45 years . BOARD SUPPORTS EMPLOYEES DURING PANDEMIC The PHSC Foundation ’ s primary mission is to promote giving in support of the College . While most support is designated toward student resources , the impact from the pandemic has elevated new needs throughout the College . PHSC Foundation Board chair , Ron May , was instrumental in recently establishing the Bobcat Fund to assist PHSC faculty and staff negatively affected by COVID-19 . Contributions directly benefit and provide relief for hardships including housing / food insecurities , mental / emotional wellbeing , and other unforeseen financial challenges . Thank you to all who have contributed to the Bobcat Fund supporting our PHSC family .
