ALUMNI PROFILE

Dr . Leanna Floyd CLASS OF 2000

P asco-Hernando State College ( PHSC ) has been an important part of my life since I was a small child . I am a third-generation alumna , following in the footsteps of my grandmother and mother , who also graduated from the College . My mother was the first in my family to graduate from PHSC at the age of 17 . My mother had an insatiable thirst for knowledge , and she set the bar high for her children , earning a high school diploma and an Associate in Arts degree simultaneously . Given my family ’ s history with PHSC , I was destined to attend a college that not only meant something to me on a personal level , but also offered an exceptional education .

After graduating from high school , I attended PHSC and earned an Associate in Arts degree , the first major step on my journey to earning a doctorate in clinical psychology and becoming an award-winning author . During my time at PHSC , I was blessed to have amazing psychology professors who continued to fuel my passion for helping others . They challenged me academically , stretched me beyond my comfort level , and helped me believe in myself . Another major influence during my time at PHSC was my writing professor who ignited a flame for a love of writing , blazing a trail that led to my budding writing career . All of my professors at PHSC had a tremendous impact on my view of the academic world , and they cultivated a love for learning that is still within me . PHSC played a monumental role in launching me into my future — creating a hunger for success that pushed me closer to my destiny .
I have always had an intense love for people . From a very young age , I knew that I wanted to devote my life to help put the messy , broken pieces of others back together . At my core , I knew that I was created to help others in need , and I have spent most of my life pursuing an education and philanthropic opportunities that would allow me to fulfill my heart ’ s desires . After graduating from PHSC , I continued my academic pursuit of earning a doctorate in clinical psychology . While earning my degree , I had the opportunity to work with local children ’ s homes . Having the privilege to make a difference in the lives of these children was very rewarding , and it reaffirmed my lifelong endeavors not only to help individuals who are suffering , but to aid in their finding and using their voices . Additionally , another part of my clinical training involved working in an all-male prison . As
