ALUMNI PROFILE Angela Y. Lewis-Bennett CLASS OF 1977 • Honored as PHSC’s 2020 Distinguished Alumna of the Year At the annual Student Life and Distinguished Alumni Awards ceremony held virtually this past spring, Angela Yvette Lewis- Bennett was honored as the College’s 2020 Distinguished Alumna of the Year. Lewis-Bennett, a Dade City native, is a 1975 graduate of Pasco High School and received her Associate in Science in Business from Pasco-Hernando Community College in 1977. Lewis-Bennett continued her education receiving a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from Saint Leo University and a master’s in educational leadership and supervision through Nova Southeastern University. She taught physical education in Pasco County for 36 years before retiring in May 2016. Lewis-Bennett has continually maintained a close relationship with PHSC. She currently volunteers as a reading instructor for the College Reach- Out Program, Center for Excellence and National Achievers Society pre-collegiate programs and volunteers as a member of the East Campus Pasco Notable Committee. In the past, she also served as the East Campus softball coach and has participated in many student leadership retreats. An outstanding leader in numerous community and professional organizations, Lewis-Bennett is the president of the Beta Sigma Chapter of Alpha Ph Chi National Sorority, Inc. and holds leadership positions in the African American Heritage Society of East Pasco County Inc., the Moore Academy-Mickens High School Alumni Association and the NAACP. She also serves as a liaison for United School Employees of Pasco County, Retired Unit, and is actively involved with Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Dade City. Lewis-Bennett has received numerous honors and recognition for her exemplary character, leadership and devotion to the growth and development of youth in the community, including recognition as a top finalist for the Florida Education Association Teaching Excellence Award. “I value the education that I received at PHSC,” said Lewis-Bennett. “It has made all the difference in who I am today.” 32 PHSC
