FOUNDATION BOARD HONORS THE LIFE OF
DONALD K. VIERLING, M.D.
Donald K. Vierling, M.D.
The PHSC Foundation was saddened to learn
of the passing of long-term board member
Donald K. Vierling, M.D. A local preventative
medicine physician, Dr. Vierling joined the PHSC
Foundation Board in 1987. Throughout his tenure,
Vierling served numerous leadership positions
including recently advising on the executive and
governance committees. The beloved family
physician also served in various capacities with
many community organizations throughout
Pasco County. Dr. Vierling was one of the original
eight physicians instrumental in establishing the
Bayonet Point Regional Medical Center where he
practiced medicine for nearly forty years.
During the recent April meeting, the Foundation
Board voted unanimously to posthumously honor
Donald K. Vierling, M.D. as a recognized Honorary
Board Member. The distinction attributes the
nearly 40-year service Dr. Vierling provided to the
Foundation as a board member and to the College
for his contributions toward the betterment of
student learning.
Inspired by Vierling’s dedication to the College,
Rao Musunuru, M.D., PHSC trustee and
renowned cardiologist, honored Dr. Vierling in
2017 with a $10,000 scholarship donation. The Dr.
Donald K. and Kim Vierling Nursing Scholarship
generates funding for PHSC nursing
student scholarships.
