Pasco-Hernando State College Volume XIII, Issue II Fall 2019 | Page 4
FROM THE PRESIDENT
Dear PHSC Friends and Supporters,
Pasco-Hernando State College is growing and evolving
every day. New programs are being made available to future
students and exciting new community partnerships continue
to develop. A new academic year is upon us, and with that
fresh energy and a sense of excitement on each of our five
campuses. Students and faculty are simply beaming with
the promise of a golden future.
During the 2019-20 academic year, the College is focusing on a very special
marketing campaign asking students, “What does it mean to be gold?”
This campaign celebrates the success of our students and highlights the
accomplishments of our alumni while we work to achieve Gold status as a College.
In 2019 we exemplified what it means to be gold—with one of the largest spring
commencements in our College’s history and ranking first among Licensed Practical
Nurse (LPN) programs in Florida by NursingProcess.org. Additionally, the College
celebrated the historic success of the baseball team ranking third in the nation at
the DII World Series. The media attention given to our College is also historic with
positive stories showcasing our students, faculty and programs airing on various
news outlets weekly. Our social media platforms continue to grow and engage
current students and the students we plan to recruit.
PHSC, in partnership with the Pasco County School District, broke ground on
the Instructional Performing Arts Center (IPAC) which will provide educational
opportunities and a community entertainment venue. It is slated to open in the fall
of 2020. The IPAC puts our College in a special place, giving students access to
something they cannot easily attain at just any state college. Middle and high school
students will have the opportunity to begin a path into the arts with a seamless
transfer to a PHSC degree program.
Workforce programs such as our aviation, pharmacy technician, surgical technology,
and cybersecurity are gaining popularity. The College continues to grow with
forensics and digital media classes coming in 2020. These new programs will give
students even more choices for their future.
This fall we are also celebrating the diversity of our College through events like
Peace Week, Unity Day and the One Nation celebrations. These events increase
student and faculty interaction on campus and garner positive media attention.
The College and the Foundation have been diligently working to build strong
relationships and connections with the community. The Foundation continues to
raise needed funding for the College’s endeavors as we gear up for our 50 th golden
anniversary.
Creating the leaders of tomorrow is our focus and every day we offer more options
to our students as they plan their futures. Our hardworking faculty and staff are at
the heart of it—all helping our students to Leave their Mark and Make it Gold.
Thank you and have a golden 2019-20 academic year!
