COLLEGE UPDATE PHSC celebrates Black History Month with special presentation: Wakanda Forever. WAKANDA FOREVER – BLACK HISTORY MONTH CELEBRATED Additional Black History Month events included: Revisiting PHSC celebrated Black History Month with a variety of special Jr.; Surviving the Horrors at Dozier, Florida’s School for Boys, lectures and events. At the Porter Campus at Wiregrass Ranch, where author Johnny Lee Gaddy shared his experiences as a Wakanda Forever: A look at how Black Panther narrates change, student at the Arthur G. Dozier Reform School in Marianna, Fla., morality and social justice in the world of Marvel Comics, from 1957 to 1961; and Pasco Notables Awards recognizing local presented especially unique content as it related to the Oscar- African-American history makers. This year’s Pasco Notables nominated Black Panther movie. honored: Elder Mitchell Davis Jr., a pastor, current board member Frederick Douglass, A Monologue with Actor Donald L. Dowridge for Take Stock in Children, and former PHSC board member; The success of the Marvel Comics series, presented by Joseph Janine Lewis, child advocate and foster parent; and Calvin Simon, Ward, J.D., Assistant Professor, English, discussed the record Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, a 2019 Grammy Lifetime trends of Black Panther as a Marvel Comic. Technology and Achievement award recipient and original member of the funk band Change with Glynis Williams, Instructor, information technology, Parliament-Funkadelics. talked about the advancement of technology, who can participate and what to do with it. Math and Morality by Sarah Fede, Associate Professor, math, detailed the ongoing calculation of what to do, what is right and what is wrong. Speech and Social Justice with Davina Jones, Ph.D., Professor, English, provided a narration of American inter-racism, intra-racism, sexism and “justice for all.” 20 PHSC Perspective
