Pasco-Hernando State College Volume XII, Issue II - Fall 2018 | Page 4
FROM THE PRESIDENT
Dear PHSC Friends and Supporters,
We are excited to kick off our fall term and the new
2018-19 academic year at PHSC. The campuses are
bustling with renewed energy and activity, as we welcome
new and returning students and continue to build and
expand college programs and initiatives. At press time, our
enrollment is rising and we are working harder than ever
to support our increasingly diverse student population and
growing number of program offerings.
In just one year, our aviation programs have taken off, cybersecurity programs are
among popular new offerings, expanded firefighting opportunities will meet demand
in the field, and our registered nursing program will expand to the North Campus in
spring 2019.
PHSC partnerships with our school districts, private schools, public service entities
and local organizations have never been stronger or more productive. One example
of collaboration is the expansion of our welding program. Long established at the
East Campus in Dade City, the college has worked closely with the Pasco County
school district to launch a joint program at Marchman Technical College in New
Port Richey. Sharing facilities and equipment will allow high school students to work
toward certification in welding while PHSC students take classes during evening
hours. Our close collaboration with both the Hernando and Pasco County school
districts has also led to a brand new online dual enrollment process, resulting in a
more streamlined method for class registration for high schoolers seeking courses
for high school and college credit.
One of our most essential tasks is preparing for PHSC’s reaccreditation through
the Southern Association of Schools Commission on Colleges. This important,
all-encompassing process requires the involvement of many administrators, faculty,
staff and students—and provides the College with a unique opportunity to study
our processes, programs, policies and plans for the future while ensuring that the
College is successfully meeting goals and objectives to best serve our students.
Perspective, our bi-annual, award-winning magazine cannot contain all College
and Foundation news, but we hope you enjoy this window into PHSC’s busy,
continuously expanding world. Please take time to read about our fascinating
paralegal program and note news regarding our generous donors, life-changing
scholarships, and other news and events.
We hope to see you on campus soon!
