Pasco-Hernando State College Volume XII, Issue I - Spring 2018 | Page 4
FROM THE PRESIDENT
Dear PHSC Friends and Supporters,
As the spring Perspective heads to press, PHSC’s
enrollment is up an impressive six percent compared to
this time last year. The College continues to meet important
milestones, support student success, provide professional
enhancement opportunities for faculty and staff, and
consistently develop new programs to meet the interests
of our students and the needs of regional employers.
During PHSC’s 45 th anniversary year, we are especially proud of our college’s
progress and excited about our potential. Many factors contribute to our success,
including partnerships that deepen connections within and beyond our district and
provide exponential rewards for our entire college community.
Among our newest efforts is PHSC’s collaborative Performing Arts Instructional
Center that will allow Pasco and Hernando middle and high school students to
explore dance, music and theater with an option for graduates to transfer to PHSC
to complete an Associate in Arts degree. Another new pathway to PHSC will lead
students to an AS degree in digital media and multi-media technology providing
specializations that involve and support performing arts. The joint-use performing
arts facility is expected to open in August 2020 at the new Cypress Middle-High
School complex in Pasco County.
The College has also worked closely with both Hernando and Pasco county school
districts to offer online registration for our very popular dual enrollment program, a
new streamlined process that connects high school students with the classes they
need more efficiently.
PHSC is also collaborating effectively with other colleges and universities. A new
initiative is the University of South Florida’s new FUSE program, providing a pathway
for students to earn PHSC AA degrees that transition directly into specific USF
bachelor’s degree programs. Additional partnerships with schools, community
organizations, health care facilities, law enforcement agencies, businesses and
service organizations represent our broad reach to provide our students with
exceptional opportunities.
We hope you enjoy this bi-annual issue of Perspective magazine, which is full of
important College and Foundation news.
As we recognize our 45 th year of service, we are truly grateful for our faculty, staff,
students, trustees, Foundation members, volunteers and our many associates and
partners that contribute to our ongoing success.
Thank you and best wishes for a great 2018!
Sincerely,
Timothy L. Beard. Ph.D.
PHSC President
