In July 2024 , local healthcare leaders , community stakeholders and PHSC staff and faculty celebrated the grand opening of the Institute for Nursing and Allied Health Advancement at the Porter Campus at Wiregrass Ranch . This initiative was made possible by $ 1.5 million in state appropriations received by PHSC .
The Institute ’ s primary goal is to find and implement data-driven solutions for the shortage of nursing and allied health professionals in Pasco and Hernando counties . Through a multipronged , comprehensive and collaborative approach , the Institute will increase nursing and allied health pipelines on both sides of the equation — increasing the talent pipeline for faculty as well as for nursing and allied health employees .
The event featured remarks from college administration , PHSC alumnus Representative Randy Maggard and PHSC Trustee Vice Chair Rebecca Schulkowski , Pharm . D ., before the ceremonial ribbon cutting marked the official opening of the Institute .
“ Our society has evolved and has generated new needs and demands in communities . It is important to recognize that , today , communities need more than just infrastructure , they need attention and solutions to the problems that affect them . Nursing and allied health shortage is one of them . Quality health is a priority for our community , and we must collaborate with our local health partners to achieve that goal . Together we have the power to empower the Pasco and Hernando healthcare workforce ,” said Dr . Jennifer Neal-Jimenez , Executive Director of the Institute .
