THE JOY OF PARKRUNNING … in Parys at Egweni River Lodge .
Breathe in , breathe out . This is the natural process of oxygenating the human body . By increasing the frequency of breathing we accept more oxygen into the lungs with long term health benefits . And what better method is there than to walk , jog or run to take in this valuable life supporting element .
Spring is upon us and our glorious weather at Parys beckons you to come and enjoy our local parkrun at Egweni River Lodge , aptly named after the relevant lodge . The parkrun distance is only 5km with no time limit . Between the green riverbank of the Vaal River and Grewar lane lies the bulk parkrun area , starting at Egweni River Lodge grounds and ending there as well . Probably one of the smallest parkruns ( in attendance numbers ), it attracts its fair share of visitors following those parkrun challenges we all love to chase .
Whatever your challenge , be it the alphabet challenge , the new event challenge or the Wilson Index challenge , our parkrun has lots to offer the runner . Don ’ t be frightened off by our 3-times-turnaround-post ( our
stagnant marshal ) or our artistic designed and painted turnaround marshal disguised as a bin . The runs in between our marshals give a spectacular view of the Vaal River three times on your right and three times on your left .
On every occasion you see something different from nature ’ s perspective . And don ’ t forget about the passing runners on these loops who greet each other enthusiastically from the front or rear , always keeping to the right hand side of the path . In essence we are all acting as parkwalkers ( acknowledging , supporting , and cheering on others ) whether we run , jog or walk .
Our volunteers always smile and look happy . Tourist volunteers are welcome . Just ask in advance and we will gladly accommodate you in a vacant position . If anybody does not want to run , jog or walk you can still volunteer to be a timekeeper , scanner , or any of the volunteer positions parkrun has to offer . Volunteers are always welcome .
