If you’ve ever been near a radio at some point over the past 35 years, it’s safe to say you’ve probably heard the music of Fleetwood Mac. But things could have gone in a different direction for the band, their individual lives, and their impact on the music world. During the recording of the album Rumours, the band was deep in dysfunction and strife as four of the five members were going through dark personal challenges. Members Christine McVie and John McVie were going through a breakup, as were Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham, which made recording a near impossible task. The tension, sadness, loneliness and hurt created an extremely trying and emotionally exhausting ordeal for the band and could easily have been enough to dissolve their focus. As a message to her ex-husband, bassist John McVie, Christine McVie wrote to him through the lyrics of what would become one of the band’s most famous songs, Don’t Stop. The album is a yearbook of emotions.
