The largest community health center-based postdoctoral
dental residency program in the world.
Who We Are
Pioneers in community health center-based dental residencies…
NYU Lutheran Dental Medicine, which pioneered the innovative concept of a community health center
(CHC) based postdoctoral dental residency program in 1974, is now the largest program of its kind in the
world. Since inception, more than 2500 post-doctoral residents have received training through one or
more of our residency programs. Once exposed to the overwhelming needs of underserved populations, a
stunning 35% of our graduates remain in public health dentistry after receiving certification, while many
more continue giving back to communities through volunteer missions.
Each year, NYU Lutheran Dental has experienced remarkable
growth in student participation, institutional collaborations
and organizational partnerships.
Dentists, both newly graduated and well-established
practitioners, seek out our programs to learn from our
highly acclaimed faculty and didactic curriculum while
receiving exceptional hands-on clinical training. Collectively,
residents perform nearly 2,000,000 oral health
procedures annually on those in the most underserved,
culturally diverse patient populations in communities both
within and outside of the United States.
