SHADY GROVE HAS DEEP ROOTS HERE

hady Grove Missionary Baptist
Church members can look back over
98 years of history. The congregation
was organized in a brush arbor in 1919
under the leadership of Reverend T.H.
Hall and 18 members, two miles North
of Wagram, North Carolina. The deacons
were Mr. W.F. Gales, Mr. M.L. Love and
Mr. Evans with Mr. J.M. Covington as the
clerk. The congregation erected a wooden
structure that was used until 1976.
Through the years and as God saw fit, the
following ministers were sent as pastors
of Shady Grove: Rev. Nillson, Rev. Pilsow,
Rev. G. Moore, Rev. C.J. Cooper, Rev. J.R.
Richardson, Rev. M.A. Buie, Rev. S.M
Giles, Rev. Ingram, Rev. J.W. Ellis, Rev. C.
McLaurin, Rev. McCoy, Rev. Hines, Rev.
W.L. Ewing, Rev. W.K. Mitchell, Rev. J.S.
Davis and Rev. J.W. Gorham, the present
pastor since 1971.
Under the leadership of Dr. J.W. Gorham,
a modern brick structure was built in 1976
on US Highway 401 South. The building
is located 7 miles South of Raeford, North
Carolina and 2 miles north of Wagram,
North Carolina. The building was enlarged
in 1994 and included over 8,600 square
feet in useable space and in located on
three acres of land. The building includes
classrooms, fellowship hall, kitchen, library
and an administrative office. All pews are
cushioned and the sanctuary seats 342
people. The entire building is equipped with
heating and cooling systems. The church
hopes to develop a playground area with
facilities for community-type sports. During
the latter part of 2003, another renovation
was started which included, enlarging the
fellowship hall and was completed in early
2005.
With continued spiritual leadership, growth,
obedience and prayers, Shady Grove
Missionary Baptist church continues to
receive the Blessing of Our Lord and Savior
Jesus Christ.
