KEEPING IT PERSONAL
AT GREAT FALLS WEALTH
I
t’s hard not to be envious of John
Hutchinson.
His accomplishments are impressive.
Yet he’s not one to brag, nor to rest on his
laurels.
For Hutchinson, helping others achieve their
goals, be it financial or personal, are what
fuels his life. That, and his family, are his
reasons for getting out of bed everyday.
He’s the brains behind and founder of Great
Falls Wealth Management in Rockingham,
but he’s also so much more. With his wife
Sharon, the Hutchinsons are members
of First United Methodist Church where
Sharon teaches Sunday School and John
serves on the church’s Staff-Parish Relations
Board. He’s Rockingham’s Mayor Pro
Tem and president of the Rockingham
Downtown Corporation. Sharon serves
on the board of both Richmond County
Hospice and Partnership for Children. John
serves on the Richmond County Historical
Society Board of Directors and FirstHealth
Richmond’s Finance Committee.
John is a published author and local history
expert. Did I mention he also has a law
degree? And yes, Sharon is an attorney also.
In the couple’s spare time, they enjoy
traveling with their three children, Eve, 6,
Alex, 9, and John Patrick, 11.
“All three children are competitive
gymnasts; the boys are competitive pianists.
Travel can take us as far as St. Petersburg,
Russia for an international piano festival and
competition or as close by as neighboring
towns to learn more about their past and
unique sites,” Hutchinson explained.
To earn a living, Hutchinson got creative.
He combined his fascination with financial
markets with his other passion, helping
and serving others. Now he can spend his
days pouring over computer screen data,

analyzing the varied aspects of his field, and
pass that knowledge on to his clients. It’s a
win-win situation.
“I believe in the timeless principles of
conservative entrepreneurship, smart
risk and high-toned business practices
are the cornerstone of smart financial
management,” he explained.
And what that means is different for
different people. Hutchinson develops a
plan for his clients that is very personal,
and incorporates not only their financial
beliefs but their emotions as well.
“When working with clients, I always
listen first,” said Hutchinson. “To serve
them properly, I need to understand
several things, including their goals,
their resources, their time horizons, their
attitude toward investment and risk, and
other, miscellaneous factors unique to each
situation.”
