NEED FRAMING? ART BY DESIGN IS THE PLACE

rt by Design has been a staple of
Laurinburg since it was started
in 1998 by Bob and Kirsten Dean
along with partners Carol Lee and Crawford
Fitch.
The business was initially located at the
corner of Main and Railroad streets in what
is known as the old Creech’s Hardware
Building. In 2003, the business was moved
to its current location at 131 Atkinson St. in
downtown Laurinburg.
Art by Design’s specialty is customer service,
providing design assistance and education
in order that the customer can make an
informed decision on their framing needs.
“We can frame, not just decoratively, but
use archival methods if preservation is
important,” Bob Dean said.
Art by Design can also handle projects of
all sizes, because there is no job too small or
too large.
“We have done some large groups of
framing work for some local industries,”
Dean said. “As well as doing large-scale
individual projects.
“We are capable of framing just about
anything that will fit in a frame,” he
added. “Pictures, paintings, shadow boxes,
christening gowns, sports jerseys, flags and
more.”
Although Dean said he has had three
partners over the years, he also jokes that he
has three employees–“me, myself and I.”
Last year, when Fitch decided to retire from
the business, Dean chose to leave his full-
time job to concentrate on Art by Design.
