Partners has been helping stewards of historic sacred places in the Appalachian regions of North Carolina , Tennessee , Kentucky , and West Virginia sustain their presence in their communities and preserve their buildings , which are centers of folk art , architecture , and cultural traditions . As part of this project , Partners provides capacity-building training , helps participating sites identify and engage with stakeholders in their communities , and provides direct support for the preservation of their historic buildings and the creation of art in collaboration with members of the community .
