Inside Cover : St . Francis of Assisi Church is the second oldest church in San Juan , Puerto Rico , and the sole remaining chapel of an 18th-century Franciscan complex . The church sponsors diverse outreach efforts , including a shower program for the homeless called “ Las Duchas ,” a free lunch program , outpatient hygiene , and more . With support from the National Fund for Sacred Places , the congregation is embarking on electrical and masonry repairs so its 300 + year old building can remain a vibrant example of social commitment for Puerto Ricans and international visitors alike .
