Alice Porter was born July 15 , 1925 , to Elick and Ima Everett in Kansas . Elick worked as a nature guide , teaching people to hunt , and helped local farmers by putting shoes on their horses . Ima stayed home to raise Alice and her younger siblings .
Alice and her family moved to Linden , Missouri , where she went to school . When Alice was going into her senior year of high school her neighbor , Lula Belle , came to her and said that she had a younger brother , named Martin , close to Alice ’ s age . Alice and Martin met at Lula Belle ’ s house and started dating shortly after meeting . The couple were married in the summer of 1945 at Smyrna Baptist Church in Ozark .
When Alice and Martin were newly married Martin went to serve in World War II , and Alice stayed behind to have their first son . When Martin returned after serving for two years , he worked on their family farm while Alice raised their sons Martin and Adrian . Together Martin and Alice raised cattle and crops . Later in life Alice drove the OAT ’ s bus and Martin built vehicles .
Alice and Martin enjoyed serving at Full Gospel Church in Lamar together . Alice would play her accordion and Martin played bass for the church . They have worked on different committees and teams to help serve at the church and on the mission field . They went to Native American reservations and helped provide the funds to build wells and help the school system .
Alice came to Parkview in September 2020 , and when asked her favorite part of living here , she said , “ The country style food ; I haven ’ t eaten anything that wasn ’ t good . And the people are so kind .”
Congratulations , Alice on being chosen as Parkview Health Care Facility ' s Resident of the Month !
