James “ Jim ” Davey was born Oct . 16 , 1932 , in Centerville , Kansas to Juanita and Roy Davey . Roy
worked on a pipeline and later as a foreman on an oil rig in Kansas City , while Juanita stayed home to raise Jim and his two older siblings , Don and Janine . Jim
lived in Centerville until he was about nine years old , when his family moved to Amsterdam , Kansas . His family later moved to Chanute , Kansas , which was
bigger than the other two towns he lived in . Jim and his friends would get together on the weekends with their wagons and pull them around with cars , donkeys , and horses . They would also gather around the town square to listen to music .
In 1951 , James met Maxine “ Mackie ,” a quiet
young woman . He asked her to go on a date with him and he loved that she didn ’ t giggle or flirt too much . After dating for a while Jim asked her “ When
do you want to get married ?” Mackie replied “ Whenever you do ,” and they were married soon after . Together the couple had two sons , Tim and Terry , and one grandson . Mackie passed away in the mid 1970s .
Jim went to Chiropractic school , but never chose to pursue a career in that . Instead he did industrial work in maintenance and later as an inspector in Atomic Energy Commission ( formerly Bendix ). After Jim finished working there , he started his own carpet shampooing company . He later worked with is mother in an antiquing and collectables business . In the early 90 ’ s , Jim became friends with another inspector at Bendix , named Jenny . Their friendship continued to grow as Jim helped Jenny take care of her late husband . They would meet up at the hospital and Jim would help him into the building or keep the car running . In 2011 , Jim and Jenny ’ s friendship grew into a beautiful relationship . They call each other every day and Jim calls Jenny “ his sweetheart .”
Over the years , Jim has enjoyed working on cars , including a limousine he once owned . He also enjoyed gardening and reading . Jim loves to meet new people and get to know the people he ’ s around . Jim loves to help others and take care of anyone he meets . You can normally find Jim walking around Parkview making new friends or looking at books in the library .
Jim came to Parkview in November 2021 , and when asked his favorite part about living here he said , “ There are people everywhere to talk to , and I like my good friend George .”
Congratulations , Jim , on being chosen as Parkview Health Care Facility ’ s Resident of the
Month !
