Peggy Lou Jones was born Dec . 1 , 1924 , to “ Ott ” and Gola Murray in a little farmhouse between Tin Town and Pleasant Hope , Missouri . Peggy and her five sisters and seven brothers grew up on the farm and worked hard to help their parents keep it running . Peggy Lou remembers watering their three hundred or so chickens for her chores . They always worked hard so that they would have time to play each day and there was never a dull moment .
Peggy attended Black Oak School in Pleasant Hope from 1 st through 8 th grade and loved the opportunity she got to work there . She was never able to attend high school because almost all of her brothers enlisted for World War II and she was needed to continue serving on the farm .
In 1940 Peggy Murray met Kyle Jones at a show in Pleasant Hope and Kyle knew right
then that he was going to marry her . He enlisted in the navy a year later and eventually she moved with him to a base in Olathe , Kansas and became his wife June 6 , 1943 . While he served overseas in Hawaii for 17 months Peggy worked on the base at the store . When he returned they ran a café together for a year and then a grocery store in Halfway for about
another year . Kyle had joined the reserves after the war and got called in July 1950 to California to serve on an aircraft carrier and repair planes for 17 months . Peggy faithfully picked up their two kids and moved to California serving their family while Kyle served his
country . After his service the family moved back to Missouri and raised their four kids , Nancy , Kirk , Karen and Myrna , on a farm much like Peggy ’ s own childhood .
Throughout her life Peggy learned and loved to sew and crochet , but most of all she
loved to quilt . Peggy is blessed with eleven grandchildren , thirty great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren , all of whom she gifted a quilt at their birth . She even made quilts for their weddings as well !
Something else she enjoyed after the war was being a part of home demonstration clubs , where women in rural America could come together and share their home-making skills . Peggy especially loved when they would plan excursions to travel around to different cities in
Missouri and explore . This community of women served her well after her husband passed .
Peggy came to Parkview Health Care Facility around March 1 of 2021 . Her favorite part about living here is getting to know the staff . When asked if there is anything else she wants us to know about her she said , “ Just that I lived a full and happy life and I thank the Lord for it every day !”
Congratulations , Peggy , on being chosen as Parkview Health Care Facility ’ s Resident of the Month !
