Meet Jo Anna Gray, Resident of the Month
Jo Anna Gray was born Nov. 3, 1932, to Joe C. and
Anna Belle Edemann Barnett in Keytesville, Mo. Jo Anna
had one brother, French Barnett. Jo Anna started school
in a small country school near Keytesville before moving
around to four different schools in first grade, including
one in California due to her family having to move wher-
ever her parents could find work. She eventually gradu-
ated high school as the salutatorian from Mendon High
School.
Shortly after her graduation, Jo Anna married James
Junior Collins. In their 33 years of marriage, the couple
had three children: J.R. Collins (Bolivar), Sharon Kay Col-
lins-Wiesner (Moberly, Mo.) and Donna Jo Collins Salm-
on. Unfortunately, Donna Jo passed away in 2007.
Jo Anna has been blessed with six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and
12 great-grandchildren.
In 1992, Jo Anna married Rex Gray and enjoyed 21 years of marriage with
him. Jo Anna has had several career experiences over her lifetime. She spent
time as a grocery clerk, worked at a publishing company, and then the United
States Postal Service. In 1971, she was promoted to the Postmaster, where she
worked in that position until 1992. During her career as Postmaster, Jo Anna
has been able to attend 27 National Postmaster conventions in various states,
including Hawaii and the Puerto Rico territory. She is also a member of the state
and national Postmaster’s Association.
Giving back to the community is something Jo Anna has always enjoyed. She
has been active in the Mendon Christian Church as a board member and Sun-
day School teacher. She also served as a 4-H leader and organizer, and she was
a proud member of the Red Hat Society and Square Dance Club .
Jo Anna loves to travel. She has visited 44 different states, some of them
more than once. She has also had the opportunity to travel the world. She has
visited Mexico, Belize, Canada, Philippines, England, and Scotland. Other than
traveling, she enjoys sewing, cooking, and baking cookies for her grandkids.
Jo Anna came to Parkview Health Care Facility initially in 2013 before going to
Butterfield for a few years. She returned to Parkview once again in January of
2018. When asked what she liked best about living at Parkview she said that
she appreciated the cleanliness of the facility, and she likes going to the many
activities that are available to her. She especially loves the exercise activities!
Congratulations ,Jo Anna, on being chosen as our Resident of the Month!
