Meet Sherry Malotte, Resident of the Month
Sherry Malotte was born to Bill and Virginia on February
7, 1948 in Enid, Okla. Growing up, Sherry was eldest of
four children, having two 2 younger sisters and a brother. As
a minister in the Disciples of Christ church, Sherry’s father
would accept calls to minister to different congregations.
Because of this, the Malotte family moved often. This didn’t
seem to bother Sherry though, she loved experiencing new
places and meeting new people. In her lifetime, She has
lived in several states including: Oklahoma, Arkansas,
Tennessee and Missouri.
While attending high school in Tulsa, Sherry enrolled in a
newly opened school of Cosmetology and was the first to
complete the program. Upon her graduation from high school, Sherry attend North
Eastern University in Tahlequah, Okla., where she earned her degree in History. After
college, Sherry moved to St. Joseph, Mo., where she worked as a cosmetologist. While
working in a local salon, she became friends with a client who was a professional
dog handler. After attending her first dog show, Sherry was hooked. For nearly four
years she ran the Dormac Kennel and showed dogs, before returning to Tulsa. Upon her
return, Sherry worked as the head of Administrative Accounting for Coopers and Lybrand.
In 1982, Sherry welcomed her son, Christopher, into the world. In order to be closer
to her family, Sherry and Christopher moved to Springfield, Mo. She started working for
Stinger Pendleton Investments as a book keeper and accountant. Today, Christopher
and his wife, Erin, continue to live in Springfield with their son, Bennett.
After years doctors visits, Sherry was diagnosed with M.S. and was no longer able to
work. She continued living in Springfield with her son and their dog, Charlie. After the
passing of her mother, Sherry and Chris moved into the family home. They remained in
the family home for several years before moving into an apartment. While living in the
apartment, Sherry had a serious fall which resulted in a broken ankle and other injuries.
