M e e t D a v i d E s t e s , R e s i d e n t o f t h e M o n t h Nov. 1, 1921, David Estes first saw the light of day in Chickasha, Oklahoma. His parents. Sam and Grace, helped him do it. They also welcomed six other young ‘uns, a total of four boys and three girls. Their father, Sam, was a Cumberland Presbyterian pastor. They moved a lot. David attended nine different schools before graduating from Humansville High, where he met, and later married, Maxine Allison. They were blessed with three lovely daughters, four grandchildren, and eleven great grandkids. After high school, David joined the Marines and served in the South Pacific during World War II. He came home, married Maxine Feb. 7, 1946, and graduated from Drury College. “Maxine worked as a bookkeeper, and kept me fed in those Drury years,” says David. David enjoyed a career in radio, television, and advertising that began in Springfield at KWTO. His was the first voice heard on KY3 in 1953. Forty three of those 50 years were spent in Kansas City. In 1999 David and Maxine moved to their farm north of Bolivar where Maxine grew up. David played golf at Silo Ridge and Maxine played bridge. Church was always a major factor in their lives, and they joined First Christian church in Bolivar. For many years David had dabbled in “writing stuff.” At the farm it became a serious effort. Since then he has written ten novels and a bucketful of short pieces - all available on Amazon. David once received a tidbit of advice from Pastor Bill Nichols which David says is applicable to life - which he won’t forget. “We (ministers) don’t do what we do because we want to. We do it because we have to.” Good pattern for living. If something positive nags at you to get it done, give it some serious thought. What does David like about Parkview Health Care Facility? “What’s not to like? Everybody is so kind and helpful. Find a spot you like, park your buns on it, and they’ll bring it to you,” says David. Congratulations, David, for being chosen as Resident of the month at Parkview Health Care Facility. *Story submitted by David Estes Are you a caring individual who would like to assist in caring for the elderly?
