She is the second oldest of four girls. Norma and her family lived on a farm near St. Louis, Mo., where her father was a farmer and a brick layer. Her mother worked in a clothing factory and, later in life, at an ice cream store. Norma graduated from Eureka High School in 1959. While attending church at Central Baptist in Eureka, Norma met her husband, Randy. The couple married in 1959 at the church surrounded by family and friends. Early in life, Norma felt a special calling to become a Pastor’s wife and that’s just what she did. After their wedding, the couple lived in St. Louis, where they attended college and Randy pastored several area churches. In 1973, Randy earned his degree from Missouri Baptist University. Shortly after his graduation, the family moved to Southern Indiana, where Randy attended Southern Seminary, earned his Master’s Degree and pastored Vienna Baptist church. After graduating from Southern Seminary in December 1975, the family moved to Memphis, Mo., where Randy pastored until 1978. Randy’s job as Director of Missions for Polk and Greene County brought the family to Bolivar from 1978-1985. During this time, Norma worked as a secretary on SBU’s campus. She worked in the Redford School of Theology and the President’s Office. From 1985-1995, they moved to the Benton Association campground in Southeast Missouri. While Randy was the Director of Missions, Norma finished her Bachelor’s degree at Southeast Missouri State University. She went on to earn her Master’s Degree in Higher Education—Counseling. At this time, Randy was the Mineral Area Baptist Association Director and Norma held several administrative positions at Central Methodist College in Farmington. The family loved travelling to Disney World, and these trips became a family tradition. In 2004, the couple retired to Orlando, Fla., enjoying being close to Disney World. In 2012, they returned to Bolivar to be near family and care for Randy’s mother. Norma moved into Parkview Health Care Facility in September of 2015. Throughout her life, Norma has enjoyed crocheting, sewing, reading, musicals, and “all things Disney”. Gardening has always been a passion for Norma. She would buy flats of flowers and create beautiful gardens at every place they lived. Norma has also enjoyed travelling the East Coast to view lighthouses and historical sites. Norma continues to enjoy regular visits with her family. She and Randy have four children, 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Congratulations Norma Jean for being chosen as the Parkview Health Care Facility’s Resident of the Month. Are you a caring individual who would like to assist in caring for the elderly?
