The Residents!

I also love to read.
David Rice was born Nov. 16, 1946, in Modesto
Calif. to parents George and Bertha Rice. David’s
father was a foreman at a cotton gin and his mother
was a housewife. David has one brother named
Douglas, who is 12 years younger than him.
David grew up in a small town in California called,
Mendota. He enjoyed running around the neighbor-
hood and playing with all the other kids. He graduat-
ed from Dostalos Joint Union High School and began
doing odd jobs around town. When David turned 19
he joined the Army. He began his Army career in Cal-
ifornia, and then moved to Georgia for military police
training. After the completion of this specialized
training, David was sent to Vietnam. He served in
the Vietnam War for one year before returning
home. He was then stationed in Tacoma, Wash. at the Army Hospital. David served
at the hospital base until being sent to Korea. He was stationed in Korea for one
year. Upon his arrival home he was discharged from the U.S. Army.
During a leave, he travelled home to California and his cousin introduced him to
the lady whom he married. The couple had one daughter before going their sepa-
rate ways. David’s daughter, Chandra, lives here in Bolivar and David enjoys visiting
with her very much. He also has one granddaughter who recently moved to Texas.
After the completion of his work with the Army, David began working for the Fed-
eral Government. Once David retired, he moved to Warsaw, Mo. and built his own
home on the lake. He enjoyed having a boat dock and several bass boats.
“I have always enjoyed woodworking and building projects,” David said. He has
built and flipped many houses in Bolivar. He has also enjoyed building dog houses
for people, and he would personalize them for each one, including paint and shut-
ters. David estimated that he has built hundreds of dog houses over the years.
David moved to Parkview in November and he enjoys having a “clean room and
friendly people,” he said. Congratulations, David, on being chosen as the Parkview
Health Care Facility resident of the month.
