Meet: Jessica Anderson
Staff of the Month

Meet Marie Jarrell, Resident of the Month
Marie Jarrell was born Jan. 23, 1933, to Eva and
Harison of Independence, Mo. Marie is the
youngest of 12 children. Growing up, Marie enjoyed
playing sports and other activities with her two
brothers and nine sisters.
While working at Katz Drugstore candy store,
Marie met John. John would come in daily to buy
a 5th Avenue candy bar from her. The two struck
up a quick friendship. One day, when he came
into the store for his 5th Avenue candy bar, John
asked Marie if she would like to be a June bride.
The two fell in love and were married a few weeks
later in May 1954. Together the couple were
blessed with 5 children.
John was an accountant. John and Marie would
eventually move their family to California, in order for him to manage 33 different H&R
Block offices. During this time, Marie stayed at home and raised their children. “My children
are the loves of her life,” Marie shared. “I loved being able to watch my family grow.” Marie
now enjoys her eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and is expecting 2 more greatgrandchildren.
After her husband passed, Marie took up bowling as a hobby. She has also enjoyed
working on different embroidery projects and painting figurines.
Since moving to Parkview Healthcare Facility, Marie has shared that she has made new
friends and she enjoys watching the fish aquarium and the birds in the aviary.

I love the residents!
What is your favorite thing to
do when you are not at
work?
I like to hunt and fish. I enjoy
reading a good book and
spending time with my
family (I have 3 children 1
girl and 2 boys).
