Meet Lorraine Straw, Resident of the Month
Lorraine Cena Straw was born on Sept.
29, 1926, in Flagler, Colo., to John and
Louisa Polzin. Lorraine has one brother,
Marvin. Growing up, Lorraine and her family
were very musical. As a child, she learned to
play the piano, clarinet and the alto horn.
Lorraine had a long history with her
husband, Gene. They were sweethearts who
decided to go their separate ways after high
school. It wasn’t until after college that they
had reunited and eventually were married in
1948 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in
Warrensburg, Mo. Gene and Lorraine have
three children; two boys, Chris and Curtis
and a daughter, Annette. Lorraine has been
blessed with five grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren.
Lorraine has worked a variety of jobs throughout her lifetime. She worked
as a secretary for the Dean of Students at Central Missouri State and also
spent several years teaching. In 1960, Lorraine, Gene and their family moved to
Branson and purchased the Indian Point Marina on Table Rock Lake. Gene enjoyed
operating the business while Lorraine worked in the office. Lorraine put her secretarial skills to work at Silver Dollar City. In her spare time, Lorraine would
share her passion for music with others by playing the organ and piano for
small churches. She enjoys spending time reading, sewing, quilting, and crafting.
A resident of Bolivar since 1995, Lorraine shared that she has always liked
the friendliness and closeness of the community. In August 2014, Lorraine
became part of the Parkview Healthcare Facility family. She enjoys all the new
friends she has made while living here. Lorraine enjoys participating in the daily
activities and enjoys being a resident of Parkview, but hopes to return home in
the near future. Congratulations Lorraine on being chosen as the
Parkview Healthcare Facility Resident of the Month!
