Stephanie Lasco was born on Jan . 18 , 1943 , in Elkorn , Wis . While her parents were driving to the hospital they had a car accident . Luckily the town family doctor was with them and was able to safely deliver Stephanie on the side of the road in a snow bank ! When Stephanie was just a baby her mother had an accident while cooking on a kerosene stove , which resulted in her death . At that time , Stephanie was the baby of the family with eight older siblings . Stephanie ’ s grandmother took in all of the older children , but because Stephanie was a baby she was unable to take her in . Stephanie ’ s oldest sister and husband came home from their honeymoon and agreed to adopt Stephanie and they raised her as their own . Stephanie then became the oldest of three siblings in her new family .
Stephanie ’ s adopted dad was a marine for 20 years , which meant the family moved often . Stephanie has lived in Virginia , North Carolina , Pennsylvania , Wisconsin , California , and Missouri . Growing up she remembers fun family vacations , going to the beach , renting cabins , and going to the circus . Stephanie was a cheerleader all through high school and loved it . One of her fondest memories is of going with her father to pick out her prom dress . She attended East Carolina College and Duke University earning a bachelor of arts degree in education .
Stephanie was married for 17 years before the marriage ended in a divorce . She did not have biological children , but when she was in her 30s she met Valentina who was a foreign exchange student from Italy . The two connected quickly and Valentina became like Stephanie ’ s adopted daughter . Stephanie loved spending time with Valentina and her husband and was thrilled when Valentina had a baby girl and was given her name .
Stephanie ’ s first job was at Swan Electronics . She started as an assembly line worker and within 10 years moved up to become the secretary to the president . She also worked for 14 years for Motorolla Semiconductor as an office manager opening both the San Diego and LA offices . She retired when she was 62 years old .
Stephanie moved from California to Rogersville in 2009 to take care of her mother . Just after moving she joined a women ’ s club and met a fellow Californian named Nancy . Stephanie and Nancy became fast friends and decided to share a home . Stephanie and Nancy enjoyed having each other ’ s companionship very much and Stephanie helped take care of her until she passed away in May 2016 .
Stephanie shares that she is a dedicated Christian , loves her church , and her faith is very important to her . She has taught children ’ s Sunday school for her entire adult life and she is even an Eucharistic Minister ( administers communion ) at the Immaculate Conception Church in Springfield . Stephanie loves to draw and watercolor . She loves to sit outside and enjoy nature . She enjoys shopping at Flea markets , antiquing , and swimming .
About three years ago Stephanie had a stroke that left her unable to move her left arm and then a heart attack and two blood clots just over two months ago that brought her to live at Parkview . Stephanie says that the first night she was at Parkview she wanted to leave right away . “ Now I cannot say enough good things about Parkview ,” says Stephanie . “ The Activities are wonderful , the people are wonderful . I just had to give it a chance and now it ’ s a wonderful place to be . I feel so lucky to be here and have a roof over my head that ’ s clean , smells good , and has wonderful food .” Congratulations Stephanie on being chosen as the Parkview Healthcare Facility Resident of the month .
