Meet Daphne Wallen, Resident of the Month
Daphne Wallen was born on Aug. 21,
1927, in Polk County, Mo. She was
welcomed as an only child to parents
Orby and Edna Jenkins. Daphne grew
up on the family farm surrounded by
horses, chickens, pigs, and cows.
Daphne remembers having many
chores on the farm. She would milk
and tend to the cows, and carry in
wood. Daphne and her family had a
large garden, but she didn’t much care
for working in it.
Daphne met her future husband,
Frank, when she was 13 years old. She
attended school with his younger sisters. They became casually acquainted
while attending the same church. In June 1946, Frank began courting Daphne.
The couple were married in April 1947, at the home of their pastor. They were
blessed with two daughters.
Daphne spent more than 30 years working in the banking industry. During
that time, Frank worked for the Fair Play Post Office and cared for farm in Cedar
County.
Daphne said she enjoys reading when she had the time and resources. She
also sewed dresses for herself and her daughters. Daphne moved to Parkview
Healthcare Facility in December of 2015. She shared that the residents and
staff at PVHCF are very nice.
Congratulations Daphne on being the Parkview Healthcare Facility’s February
2016 Resident of the Month.
