(Son is 12 and daughter is 6) Meet Jessie Beason, Resident of the Month Jessie Beason was born on Feb. 11, 1927 to Hess and Merle Martin in Bolivar, Mo. Her father was a mail carrier and her mother worked in the home. Throughout her childhood, Jessie and family moved often, usually around the Bolivar area. Her mother loved to find “rundown” houses and move into them. The family would spend a lot of time remodeling them and eventually they would sell it and move into a different home. As an only child, Jessie’s fondest childhood memory usually involved her two dogs, Pork and Beans. Jessie graduated from Bolivar High School and attended teaching college for two years. Eventually she married her high school sweetheart, Charles Wilson. Jessie spent two years teaching, and after having her son, Charles Richard, she decided to stay at home. Nearly 11 years after the birth of their first son, the couple were blessed with another son, Bernard Thane. It wasn’t long before Jessie became the Deputy County Clerk. After serving in this position for 4 years, she went on to open a dress shop on the square. During this time her husband was working at the Cattle Commission in Springfield. His years of dedication and hard work eventually paid off when he became a co-owner. Sadly, after nearly 30 years of marriage, Charles passed away. After his passing Jessie moved into a sorority house on the campus of Mizzou. She lived in the house for more than 10 years as the “House Mom.” Jessie enjoyed living there and was able to meet a lot of wonderful people. Eventually Jessie met Robert Beason. At the time, she had roomed with his cousin. Robert asked his cousin for her number and they began talking. They met, fell in love and eventually were married at the First Christian Church in Bolivar, Mo. They were both 65 years old when they got married. Jessie and Bob enjoyed going on cruises together. They would travel to Florida for long weekends and holidays to visit Jessie’s son, Thane. After 20 years of marriage, the couple moved into Butterfield Residential Care Center. Shortly after relocating, Bob became ill and passed away. In March 2016, Jessie moved into Parkview Healthcare Facility. For more than 25 years, Jessie has volunteered at CMH. During that time, Jessie shared that she knitted more than a thousand caps for newborn babies. Along with knitting, she enjoys reading and being around children. According to Jessie, Kay, her roommate was one of the best things about Parkview. She has enjoyed making new friends and looks forward to making many more. Congratulations, Jessie on being chosen as PVHCF’s Resident of the Month. Are you a caring individual who would like to assist in caring for the elderly?
