Staff of the Month
Mildred Seiner was born on October 12, 1921,
in Bolivar, Mo. She was the eldest child, having one
younger brother, to Linn and Rose Derossett. Mildred
and her family lived on a farm near the Pomme De Terre
River where they raised cattle and had several large
gardens. “My family did everything together. We worked
the farm together, loved to go fishing, and tended the
garden,” Mildred shared with a smile. “We really took
care of each other.”
Mildred’s father, along with working on the farm,
worked as a carpenter. He helped to build several
churches, businesses and homes in the Bolivar area.
Because of his expertise, Mildred talked with me about
how her home was one of the first in the area to have
electricity.
Mildred remembers her mother fondly. “She was
one of the best women that God had ever made,” Mildred shared. “She was always
helping others.” According to Mildred, she taught women how to cook and helped
deliver babies.
Mildred married Eubert “Buck” Seiner and the couple had three children. For 45
years, Buck worked as a car salesman and as an auctioneer. With a smile on her face,
Mildred shared that her husband never met a stranger in his life. Even when they would
go on vacation he would see people that he knew,. He never forgot a name or a face!
Mildred was a beautician and owned three different beauty shops in the area.
Her favorite job, however, was managing Horton’s clothing stores. She loved her work
with Horton’s and enjoyed going to market to help pick out clothing for the stores. In her
