    Oriental Bittersweet (Celastrus orbiculatus)      Chinese Yam (Dioscorea polystachya)     Climbing Euonymus or Wintercreeper (Euonymus fortunei)    Lesser Celandine (Ficaria verna)  fruiting/dispersal of seed If plants are pulled while in fruit, vines must be bagged and disposed of in a landfill Herbicide application is effective when using glyphosate or triclopyr, especially in combination with manual or mechanical removal techniques For a herbicidal foliar application, use a water-based solution of 2.5% triclopyr in the summer and fall; smaller infestations will need an application of glyphosate For a basal bark application, use a mixture of 20- 30% Garlon® 4 mixed with basal and horticultural oil, diesel fuel, and No. 1 or No. 2 fuel oil or kerosene near the base of the vines Manual removal of the vine is effective, taking care to pull all roots If plants are pulled while in fruit, vines must be bagged and disposed of in a landfill For basal bark herbicidal application, use a 20% solution of Garlon® 4 (2.5 quarts per 3-gallon mix) with a basal oil to vine stems on any days above 50° F For cut stem application, apply 25% solution of glyphosate or triclopyr plus water and is effective at temperatures as low as 40° F Foliar applications of herbicide must be done after native vegetation has become dormant (October- November); apply 2% solution of Garlon® 4 or Garlon® 3A mixed with water and a non-ionic surfactant to the leaves, being sure to wet the leaves but not causing runoff; ambient air temperatures should be above 40° F Extremely difficult to eradicate so repeated treatments are necessary For small infestations, dig up and dispose of whole plant and dispose of in a trash bag For large vines, cut to ground level and immediately treat the cut stump with trichlopyr at 50% solution. Dispose of vine in a trash bag For smaller plants foliar treat with trichlopyr at 2% solution Can be removed manually with a Pulaski or similar digging tool, making sure to include all roots and runners; all plant parts must be bagged and disposed of in a landfill For cut stem application, apply 25% solution of glyphosate or triclopyr plus water and is effective at temperatures as low as 40° F For foliar applications of herbicide, apply a 2% solution of glyphosate or triclopyr mixed with water and a 2.5% non-ionic surfactant to the leaves, being sure to wet the leaves but not causing runoff; ambient air temperatures should be above 65° F Extremely difficult to eradicate so repeated treatments are necessary 28
