Since the 1995 Plan, LMPRD has completed 52 individual master plans for
parks, paths and greenways. Two of those plans were of regional significance
and were adopted by Louisville Metro Council in 2013 – the Louisville Loop
Master Plan and the Louisville Greenways – South Points Plan.
Park and path master plans are developed to guide public and private investment
related to those public lands and facilities. The planning process gathers and analyzes
information about the park’s historic and natural resources, infrastructure, as well as opinions
and ideas from park and path users and neighbors to create a plan for the park’s future. Master
plans usually include recommendations for implementation such as priorities, phasing and order
of magnitude cost estimates for the proposed improvements. These master plans have provided
the basis for securing approximately $184,000,000 in funding to date toward the
implementation of these park master plans since 1994. A list of these completed plans and the
date of completion follows on the next page.
