our sports: CHAMPIONSHIP BULL RIDING Cody Teel crowned CBR Champion BY MELISSA MOORMAN C ody Teel said it best, “It’s been a good month overall.” Championship Bull Riding (CBR) fans can attest to that, as Teel is the winner of the World Championship Bull Riding 2015 Road to Mahindra Tour that culminated at the Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo. The win is the end of a five-round CBR competition and the spoils include a $100,000 check, a Hyo silver belt buckle, custom Fenoglio Boots, custom trophy saddle by Juan Jose Muñoz Andrade and an eMax22 Gear tractor from Mahindra as well as one of the most prestigious titles in bull riding. Twenty-five of the industry’s elite bull riders were invited to compete, but in the end it was just one who dominated the World Finals. Cody Teel of Kountze, Texas rode five for five to win the one bull riding champion title he had not earned. Teel is the 2015 World Champion with a final score of 1500 points and season winnings of $113,000. Leading his closest competitor Sage Kimzey, PRCA and CBR reigning World Champion, by only 32 points at the end of May with the two cowboys going into the finals, the competition was incredibly tight. Teel was battling an ankle injury after the first night’s competition, but according to him, “It felt good to go in there to ride every bull. It always feels good. I knew going in there I had to ride everything to win the title.” The injury was caused by the second bull he rode on Monday night, a bull named 4 Rogaine who stepped on Teel. The injury was serious enough to require the use of crutches. Teel was able to pull ahead of Sage Kimzey an additional point after the first night of competition with a combined score of 173.5 points.
