Dreams rarely come to fruition overnight, but one Peaster man unwilling
to quit has made his a reality after two
decades. Ozzy Menchaca, along with
his wife, Lori, opened Menchaca’s
Cocina this summer after building
their outdoor restaurant one piece at
a time over the last three years. While
currently they’re only open on Saturdays from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., they hope
to make the al fresco Mexican kitchen
their day jobs.
A career spanning nearly 15
years, Ozzy’s mainstay is contracting,
building homes, barns and conducting renovations. Lori is currently a
stay-at-home mom, a position she has
held for the last few years, aside from
driving a school bus in the mornings
for Peaster ISD.
The Menchacas said they moved
from their previous residence nearly
five years ago – a custom dream
home they built – opting to downsize
and pay in full for their current home
equipped with just enough space
beside the dwelling for a future business.
“We knew that once we bought
this house we would eventually put
something here,” Ozzy said.
Entranced one night by the naked
land on the south side of their property, Ozzy recalls his wife asking him
what he was looking at. Assured, he
replied, “I am looking at my restaurant.”
