with their community service proj- ects, putting in over 100 service hours over the last year. She was also instrumental in starting the first-ever VBA Patriots 4-H Club, which she serves as club president. Her mother, Kristi Brantley, had the privilege of seeing her hard work and dedication first hand.  “We implemented a new program with the school and I told them that I needed some help, so they made Kember a teacher’s aide and she came in and helped me work with the kids,” she said. “She just gets in and does it. When she’s in her element, she’s just into it and it’s amazing to watch. To step back and see her as a teacher’s aide and see her from that angle, it’s cool to see it from a different point of view.”  She also enjoys volunteering with The Center of Hope and The Hope Chest, and has partnered with both these missions several times over the past few years. Kember is active in her youth group at Victory Baptist Academy and has a true heart for God. “She’s a good kid. Some days I sit back and I realize she’s my kid and I’m still amazed at what she does. I’m very proud of her. If you ever want anyone loyal to a fault, it would be Kember,” Brantley said. Luke and Joshua Smith Running for Causes Weatherford Christian School’s Luke and Joshua Smith are active in both academics and sports, particularly cross-country running and track. The 17-year-olds have an Azle address and live between Azle and Weatherford; but they definitely identify with Weatherford, as Weatherfordians. “I don’t like to go into Azle very much,” Joshua said. “I spend most of my time in Weatherford.” The twins enjoy running for causes that help others. Dec. 1, 2018, they ran in their second St. Jude’s Half-Marathon held in Memphis, Tenn. “They had a great run,” said Karen Mooney, secondary principal at WCS, “finishing 25th and 26th in their age group and 136th and 147th overall out of 9,686 [runners].
