The Fusion of Education
With Healthcare
he school nurse has always played a pivotal role
in any school system. They address multiple needs
for a student. For physical, mental and emotional well-
being, school nurses support each child when they’re
needed the most. Now, partnering with the Parker County
Hospital District Outreach Program, Weatherford ISD
has created a program to allow nurses, with the help of a
doctor, to provide additional medical care called Kanga
Care at each campus.
Originating from a conversation that Shealee Mitchell,
District Health Services Nurse Coordinator with WISD,
and Kathleen Durham, Marketing Director with PCHD
Outreach Program, had about healthcare, Kanga Care
was initially born out of the yearly flu shot appointments.
