PARKER COUNTY AG
Payton Dawn Jennings
Poolville High School
Payton Dawn Jennings will be a senior at Poolville High School next
year. She has lived in Poolville all her life. She is active from sunup to
sundown, enjoying her Ag life as well as participating in sports at school.
She also enjoys time with her friends and family and playing with her dogs.
Payton has had her hand in showing pigs, lambs, goats and sometimes
steer, and says her favorite thing is “raising the animals from babies and
working with them to make them better.” However, she is not a fan of
cleaning their nasty pens.
For the last 10-12 years, Payton has competed in shows all over Texas,
including Parker County, Fort Worth, San Antonio, San Angelo, Houston,
Belton and Dallas, placing at almost every event. She has won junior showmanship
two years at the county show in both steer and pig showmanship.
Payton credits her older sister as someone she always looks up to in and
out of the ring, and her father, who has been critical in teaching her the
ins and outs of showing and teaching her everything she knows about the
livestock industry.
Payton is involved with the FFA, plays basketball, volleyball, cross country
and track and she volunteered with a local vet the first weekend of every
month at a horse sale. Payton hopes to earn an athletic scholarship for
college but she has a plan B if that doesn’t work out. She said, “ If I do not
receive a scholarship I will attend Weatherford College for my basics and
go from there! I want to study education and someday become an
elementary school teacher!”
Payton shared her most memorable moment in the ring, “When I was about
7-8 years old I had a goat that hated me and during the show it decided to
run away but I decided not to let go and was drug
around the entire ring while everyone screamed,
‘LET GO!’ My mom always told me if one tried to
get away, ‘DON’T LET GO,’ and I didn’t!”
