Larry Fowler — Parker County Sheriff Parker County’s longest-serving sheriff, Larry was born and raised in Parker County. His law enforcement career began at the Weatherford Police Department where he rose through the ranks before receiving an appointment as a Deputy US Marshal. After enjoying an exciting and distinguished career, Larry returned to Parker County where he served as Chief Deputy Sheriff and as an investigator for the District Attorney’s Office. He took office as sheriff in 2005 and has earned numerous awards for his innovative and proactive work.  What he most loves about his job is, “…serving the citizens of Parker County. This is my hometown. It’s where I was born. Serving the residents of my own community means the world to me,” Larry said. Something few people know about Larry is that during his tenure as a deputy with the US Marshal’s Service he traveled extensively. “I was able to work alongside our nation’s top officers in the largest metropolitan areas, gain- ing invaluable law enforcement experience,” he said.  Accomplishments he’s most proud of as sheriff? “I’m very happy with the overall operations of the sheriff’s office,” Larry said. “The changes and expansions we have made to each division in the sheriff’s office since I initially began serving as sheriff have been very rewarding. I’m especially proud of the Special Crimes Unit and our training division. We created the training division to lower the costs of tax dollars and keep our deputies and investigators up-to-date with state-mandated training. Since 2009, the amount of personnel sent out of the county to receive their training is greatly reduced. This saves funding by foregoing hotels, per diem and course costs. We also generate revenue by accepting officers from outside agencies to attend our training courses taught by certified instructors. We created our Special Crimes Unit with our top investigators focusing on drug traf- ficking and crimes specific within our county. During the first two years of inception, our Special Crimes Unit made more than 500 arrests and took more than $2.5 million of illegal drugs off the streets of Parker County.” Their success continues today. That’s something to boast about.
