offered his services,” said Ortiz. Dr. Ryan Cate of Grote Vet Clinic offered to x-ray Daisy and determined that her back left paw was shattered, and the leg needed to be amputated. Once the extent of her injuries was determined, the WPCAS was able to operate. “Once she came out from surgery she was doing fine, it was like she didn’t even notice [her missing leg]. At first she was really shy, but day-by-day she got used to us and seemed really happy,” said Ortiz. Then, Daisy’s story comes full circle. Davin and Heather, the other couple who stopped to help, ended up adopting Daisy. Davin and Laurence had exchanged numbers on that fateful day, and kept in touch about Daisy’s status. “Hank followed up with me, and told me where she was, and my wife and I were really excited for her that she wasn’t euthanized, so we adopted her from the WPCAS. My wife went to pick her up after the holiday [MLK],” Davin said. The Moore family has only had Daisy for a short time, but their family is happy and healthy, made complete with the newest furbaby member. “She seems to be doing pretty well,” Davin said. As Herriot said, “Life is unpredictable ... and is a tale of little disasters and little triumphs.” Because the great people of Parker County came together to help a defenseless animal, not only will Daisy have an amazing life, but a new friendship has developed between Laurence and the Moore family.
